i can install red alert 2 on my sony laptop but when i run it (even in the certain compatibility mode) the menu background comes up but with no buttons, however you can still click on the areas in which the buttons would be located. Try running it as an Administrator in both compatibility mode, and without it. This is how I got all of games before Tiberium Wars to work.
And make sure You have the correct compatibility modes (I would tell you What I have them at, but I am 1 hour away!) so you might have to tweak those.

Of course, If you have an XP machine (Or get the vista to dual boot into XP) then that would be better if you have any XP games. as Vista
